The Economic Society of South Africa (ESSA) will be holding its Biennial Conference on 8th to 10th September 2025 at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, South Africa. More information is available on the conference website here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal/18136982/call-for-papers/2025-centenary-conference
We have been invited to propose a special session on the Economics of the Cultural and Creative Industries in Africa for this conference, which is an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the work of our members and build the profile of the Cluster of Research Excellence: Creative Economies: Cultures, Innovation and Sustainability
This is an invitation to you to send an extended abstract (500 – 800 words) to be considered for the special session (which will consist of a maximum of four papers).
Papers can be based on any area of the economics of arts and culture, or creative industries research in an African context. However, while the conference does include some interdisciplinary work, it is focused primarily on economics, and papers should clearly indicate which area/s of the discipline they draw on.
All accepted papers must be presented in-person, and presenters at the special session will be required to register individually for the conference, and to plan with their university to cover travel and other costs of attending.
Deadline: Wednesday the 15th of January 2025
Length and Format: 500 – 800 words, indicating (i) the main research question/s; (ii) the theoretical framework; (iii) research methods; (iv) main findings or results.
Submissions and questions can be directed to j.snowball@ru.ac.za
